iOS 27’s Siri gets one thing very right that other AI assistants get wrong

If you need the most powerful, cutting-edge AI tool, you might be better served by competitors like ChatGPT, Claude, and Google Gemini. However, after using Siri AI and comparing it to those third-party tools, I’ve noticed a key difference where I greatly favor Siri. Unlike other AI chatbots, Siri doesn’t pretend to be human. It’s not overly verbose, mimicking a human-like personality that might lull you into forming a personal relationship with it. Siri is helpful, intelligent, and does what you ask it to do. But the way it responds makes clear that it’s a tool, not a person. It reminds you regularly that it’s an AI, so it can make mistakes. And it won’t faux date you. Whereas ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini are all bursting with personality, opinions, and demonstrate more human-like tendencies in a way that, for me, feels disingenuous. I imagine some users enjoy that more “personal” approach. But I much prefer that AI assistants stay in their lane and don’t pretend to be something they’re not. AI is changing the world. But AI chatbots are tools, not people. And I love that Apple gets that, and built the new Siri accordingly. What’s your view of how “human-like” an AI assistant should be?
